Six houses burn as fire engulfs fuel station in Ondo state

– A fuel station in Ondo station has been engulfed by fire

– Six houses have been destroyed by the spreading flames

– No deaths has been recorded

About six houses have been burnt in an inferno that gutted a Mobil petrol station on Saturday evening in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fire which began at 7.30pm was as a result of a spark which emanated from a house beside the Mobil filling station.
It was gathered that no life was lost in the inferno, but the absence of a fire service station in the town worsened the situation. An eye witness, Prince Ayoola Odidiomo, said no life was lost in the fire outbreak, but that six houses were razed by the inferno.
“It was through the efforts of residents that the fire was put off to stop further wreckage.
“We saw the fire this evening burning the Mobil petrol station before we later discovered that the fire started from a house beside it, which was loaded with diesel.
“It was so sad that there is no fire service station here in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC).
“We, the residents tried our best to put off the fire to stop further damage,” Odidiomo said.
Efforts by NAN to speak with the Igbokoda Divisional Police Officer, Mr Ifeanyi Godswillbproved abortive, as calls placed to his phone were not successful.
Meanwhile, 6 people have been reportedly killed and 15 vehicles burnt beyond recognition, following a fire outbreak at an NNPC accredited fuel station in Kaduna state.
It was gathered that the fire started at about 5:09pm and raged for over three hours. The assistant manager, Fasada Mega Filling Station, Alhaji Jibrin Musa, said on Sunday, April 24, that the incident happened on Saturday when one of the trucks was off-loading petrol.
