Ever since the news of the break-up of
Psquare broke, fingers have been pointing to two people in the family;
Peter and Jude Okoye. Yours truly, Saturday Beats reached out
to Jude via a telephone call after he refused to reply text messages but
immediately he was told the call was from Saturday Beats, he
disconnected it rudely even though there had been contacts with him
before the break-up saga.
Although the Okoye family has not
categorically stated that Psquare has split, going by the feeler the
twin brothers, Peter and Paul, are putting out, it seems the end has
come to the brand known as Psquare. Early in the week, Peter unveiled
his new management team, with a new manager, which means his elder
brother Jude, would no longer be managing his affairs.
He had a solo performance in Abuja, released a new song, Look Into My Eyes, and also changed his stage name to Mr. P.
Paul on the other hand has asked to be called Rudeboy. He also released an emotional song, Call Heaven, in which he sings his heart out, evoking the memory of his late parents on the happenings in the Okoye household.
In a reaction to the group’s split, Nigerians also took to Twitter with the hashtag #Psquare to voice their opinion.
A Nigerian twitter user with the handle
@mackzii, suggested that the brothers need a time out together and
alone. She tweeted, “Peter and Paul Okoye need to go somewhere, no
internet, no gadget, just the two of them. They need time alone.”
Another twitter user, @igono, voiced the
concern of many Nigerians about the value of both twin brothers
pursuing solo careers. He tweeted, “I’m a big fan of Psquare, not Peter
or Paul.”
User @nze007 also asked the brothers if
they remember a line from their song where they said Peter and Paul are
one and not two individuals. The user tweeted, “Wonder if Peter and Paul
still remember their famous line, ‘Peter and Paul dem be one no be
two.’”
On a flip side, some Nigerians have found humour in the situation.
@temiswift_ tweeted, “If Psquare can
break up and still be fine, nobody should lament about a broken
relationship when your partner isn’t your twin.”
Another twitter user, @pervrocker
tweeted, “Someone that has been looking for an excuse to break up will
just use Psquare. I have to break up with you. Why? Psquare broke up, it
is a sign.”
Others are blaming one of the brothers’ wives for the break-up.
Their insinuations may not be farfetched
as it should be recalled that Jude Okoye was not present at the wedding
ceremony of his brother, Peter even though he was in town. Many have
speculated that this was what led to the crack in the relationship among
the brothers.
@osimomento is one of those who feel
that a woman has something to do with the brothers going their separate
ways. He tweeted, “If Psquare can break up, then understand the power of
a bad wife.”
